These are the ramblings of a young married couple in the great City of Chicago.

Cubs Win! Cubs Win!

Tuesday, 30 September 2003 Jacob Tomaw

Fans of the Cubs invaded Turner Field in Atlanta and saw them beat the Braves 4-2. This is the first road win for the Cubs in the postseason since Game 3 of the 1945 World Series. Kerry Wood got it done tonight. Carlos Zambrano will carry us through on Wednesday.

Right a century of suffering didn’t do it but missing one game will.

You are telling me those fans that have sit through as many losing seasons as Cubs fans have are going to turn on the team now? This is because they have to exchange their rain delay tickets from yesterday for a game next year. Some of these fans paid as much as $800 per ticket from a broker and the tickets next year will be face value, about $25. These fans are blaming the Cubs for not letting them see the game today. However the Cubs are good Chicagoans and are of course blaming the mayor. By city ordnance there can only be 18 regular season night games, if they made up the game tonight they would be breaking the law, and they way the Mayor has been who knows if Wrigley would still exist after that.

Kicking the rabbit habit.

Hundreds ot rabbits are being evicted from Grant Park! All they wanted to do was make love not war, but they are eating our trees. The evictions are going to be humane.

If the Farm Progress Show is ever held in Flatiron all we would need to do is change the date on a lot of news stories. Including this one with Vermillion County in it.

Sternly worded email has been sent.

Texas University Shuts Down Bake Sale

Thursday, 25 September 2003 Jacob Tomaw

Students had a bake sale to protest affermitive action. The prices were based on race and gender. As you can imagine even though black people paid the least there was still anger about the sale. One black student, Matt Houston, said, “My reaction was disgust because of the ignorance of some SMU students. They were arguing that affirmative action was solely based on race. It’s not based on race. It’s based on bringing a diverse community to a certain organization.” Is he disgusted with his own ignorance? Affermitive action tries to bring “a diverse community” through rules based solely on race and gender.

Reminds me of a cartoon sent to me by Zack Wendling yesterday.

Not Vermillion County News

Wednesday, 24 September 2003 Jacob Tomaw

This is a nice story about the Farm Progress Show, but it came up in my Vermillion County news search. I guess not everyone is as conscience of the fact that there are two counties spelled differently. This is why I am an annoying nag and write them a sternly worded email every time these Illinoisan stories show up.

Terre Haute University?

Tuesday, 23 September 2003 Jacob Tomaw

Tonight the very funny Conan O’Brien had a bit about new NCAA mascots. All of the schools in the bit were real, save one. There was a mascot from Terre Haute University, not ISU. I looked, there is not a THU. Very odd.

Where is Andy Richter? Could he regulate this madness?
He is going to be on NBC it seems!

Childhood home of TFL friend burns.

Tuesday, 23 September 2003 Jacob Tomaw

This home was lived in for 20 years by Zach Wendling of the Hoosier Review. I can only imagine if Flatiron were to burn.

I am back.

Last night I was fiddling around with my internet setup, preparing to call Comcast technical support. Something unexpected happened when I tried to renew my IP address, I was able to and it looked like a Comcast IP address. However I was still unable to connect to AIM or load a web page. I was able to resolve addresses but I was not able to contact servers. I was only able to do things that did not need to leave the Comcast network. It occurred to me that maybe my account was still not active. I started the activation CD and completed the steps. After this I was up and running. The only drawback is the activation process included Comcast installing spy ware and changing you IE installation.
