The Front Has Passed!

Tuesday, 23 September 2003 Jacob Tomaw

Last night I went to bed as the rain began. This morning I awoke wondering if it is possible the pipes in my apartment might have froze, because it is freaking cold in here! I look at the weather for Chicago, as reported at Midway. It is currently 48 degrees! But this takes the cake, it “feels like” 44 degrees, there is a wind chill. How quickly the days of summer have passed. It is going to be a nasty cold World Series at Wrigley Field come late October.

"Just A Great Band"

Friday, 19 September 2003 Jacob Tomaw

Sir Paul McCartney has had ?Let It Be? un-mastered, back to how he intended it to sound. The ?Let It Be? we know today is the work of Phil Spector, who was given the task by John Lennon. ?Let It Be? was intended to be a return to simple Rock and Roll. That was before the band dissolved on the last day of recording in 1969 and Spector worked his wall of sound techniques.

The “new” album will be called ?Let It Be…Naked? and should be out in November.

Hint: November is before Christmas.

Patriot Day

Matt Lauer was interviewing the guy. OK Matt and Katie do not interview, they lead their witnesses, but you know what I mean. This guy was talking about how the Federal government does not torture al-Queda members it captures, but does coerce them. I was listening, thinking this is a good thing. I do not want to hurt or kill them; I want to know where we can find more of the punks. Then I realized that Matt was offended by this! Apparently he does not remember that a celebrity interview or story about divorced soccer mom saving a kitten, or whatever crap that is usually on Today was interrupted buy these folks destroying one of the largest buildings in America!

He might not but I do! My sister IMed me, ?What is going on in NYC?? I turned on Matt?s Sorry Mug. The first words out of my mouth that day as my knees were hitting the floor where ?What the %@&#??

O’Bannon ill in Chicago!

Monday, 8 September 2003 Jacob Tomaw

Gov. O’Bannon has been hospitalized here in Chicago. Few details have been given, but an official said, “I know it’s a very serious situation.”

I cannot help by think of the 2000 Gubernatorial Debate. A comment had been made about Gov. O?Bannon?s grandchildren being the reason he was running for reelection. Rep. David McIntosh, the republican opponent, said that O?Bannon?s grandchildren were also a reason he was running against O?Bannon. McIntosh knew that the Governor was getting older and wanted to make sure that his grandchildren had plenty of time to spend with him in the next 4 years.

Compassionate Conservative?

This weekend I was watching the Cubs stomp the Brew Crew in Milwaukee. Milwaukee is the hometown of the Commissioner of Baseball. Mr. Selig came into the broadcast booth with Chip Caray and Steve Stone. They were discussing that it was 10 years ago that the wild card system for the MLB pennant races was voted in by the owners. The Commissioner stated a fact that I think might be in play for next year?s presidential election. The Wild Card was approved 27-1 in 1993. The lone dissent came from the Texas Rangers. The president of the Rangers has now gone on to a more important job. We all know him as President Bush. If the election where held today could the baseball fans of the Yankees, Red Sox, White Sox, Twins, Royals, A?s, Mariners, Braves, Cubs, Astros, Cardinals, and Giants hold the President responsible for trying to destroy their hopes of a World Series? Does voting against the Wild Card system sound like something you would do if you wanted to be seen as companionate? Perhaps the President saw giving these team who had failed to win their divisions a second chance similar to going back to the UN for yet another resolution on Iraq, or giving any amount of trust to Kim Jung Il.
Just something to ponder.
