These are the ramblings of a young married couple in the great City of Chicago.

Stopping AIDS is easy

Monday, 12 July 2004 by Jacob Tomaw

It is the not having sex part that is hard. Rush Limbaugh is fond of saying “Abstinence works every time it’s tried.” Some people don;t think it is fair to tell people to not have sex if they do not want to die from AIDS. They say we should only teach people to use condoms, so they can have all the sex they want and it be safer.

I think that we should follow Uganda’s ABC policy that teaches abstinence first and condoms last, because it works. When this was suggested at the AIDS conference this week Congresswoman Barbara Lee said, “Abstaining from sex is oftentimes not a choice, and therefore their only hope in preventing HIV infection is the use of condoms.” If you did not choose to have sex, then how exactly are you going to choose to use a condom?
