Kerry Concedes, America Wins
Wednesday, 3 November 2004 by Jacob TomawIn some ways this redeems John Kerry a little bit for me. One of the things he said he wanted to do was return us to the America of before 9/11.
Looking back on it, that is not far enough. I want to go back to the time before November 2000. The only change being that instead of just believing we are securely surrounded by oceans, covered in the blanked of the most powerful military, and possess the most intelligent intelligence, make it so we know all those things.
By conceding John Kerry has done a lot to help us move back into the America that we all knew and loved. He has helped to actually move on, much more than MoveOn.org ever did in the last 4 years. He has shown that the election of 2000 was a fluke and the system that we have used 55 times is still the best method we have. Hopefully this will quell the movement of electoral litigation, but we must be sure to continue to encourage our legislators to refine the system making it as efficient as possible.
Sen. Kerry has also, very indirectly, helped give Pres. Bush a mandate.
Two clear visions of our future foreign policy and role in the world were presented in this race. The President’s stronger vision arose the victor.
We will continue to project our power to protect ourselves from the people who want to kill each of us. We will also remain not only the lone super power in the world, but also the leader of the world. We will restrain ourselves based on what our distant cousins in Europe think. Despite what they may believe, our leaders do listen to what they say but will continue to ignore it if it is not in the best interest of America. If the nations of the world do not think we are doing a good job, I would like them to politely ask us to leave and protect themselves from terrorists and foreign armies. However they should remember that if they harbor any force trying to kill Americans, we will exterminate that force.
