Put it on the Calendar
Tuesday, 6 June 2006 Jacob TomawWhat I into this Tuesday is gCal.
Google Calendar has been around for a few months now. I have tried to play around with other internet calendaring applications and none of them ever took. The 6 months before gCal what released was filled with nerds speculating about its release. Finally it was let out and it rocked.
You can set up multiple calendars and expose any number of them to the public or family and friends. I have two, right now. One is my normal personal calendar, like what I have going on after work. The other is an Out Of Town calendar. This includes when I am not going to be in Chicago (because I am among the people, my lovely readers) or when I cannot be out of town (because work demands I be near a computer, or because the people, my lovely readers, are coming to me). This one is shared with Joscelynn and what is amazing is that not only can Jos see this one, but she can update it. More often than not we leave or stay in town together. So if she cannot leave, I cannot leave and visa versa.
You can also include public calendars from Google and other users. I currently have 3. US Holidays because …well… I live in Illinois which is a US. German Holidays because, ich bin Deutschnerd. I also have a Chicago Event calendar so I can see what is going on in Chicago. (If you all know of some great calendars I should look into let me know. If they are cool I will blog them.)
Obviously, there are some things I don’t like about it. For instance, how am I supposed to know if people have commented on an event? There is no email notification.
Check out Google Calendar. I think all you need now is a Google Account to get calendar, which you can get from the login page. I am guessing it works best with gMail. If you need a gMail account and do not want to give Google your cell phone number, let me know.
I am always looking for good Grease Monkey Scripts and Firefox extensions for the stuff I am into so send those my way if you have them. And if there is something you think I should be into in the future pass it along.
