These are the ramblings of a young married couple in the great City of Chicago.

The power of the data

Thursday, 29 March 2007 Jacob Tomaw

When you take a picture with your digital camera. a lot of information is saved in the file. One bit of information is the type of camera. Now imagine millions (is it millions?) of people uploading images to a central place. It would be pretty easy to find out what the most popular camera is.

Flickr is part of the amazing world we live in today and they have the data. Check out Flickr: Camera Finder.

My 7-year old! Sony DSC-S50 is not listed among it’s brothers. I wonder if I am the old person still using this camera. Maybe I will have to see what the more popular SLRs are in a couple months for my birthday.

Couches and Rumors of Couches

Tuesday, 20 March 2007 Jacob Tomaw

Joscelynn and I have been living the “Saga of the New Couch.” This saga has lasted 146 days. It has also resulted in us hating our old couch and unlikely to ever buy anything from Domicile again. The clerks at the Diversey store have routinely lied to Jos. It was with great skepticism, we learned out couch is in. With most companies that would mean, soon to be delivered to you. We are not holding our breath. Until the couch is in our living room and I can post pictures of George molesting it, the counter will remain and the saga continues.

Just Call Me Schultz

Thursday, 15 March 2007 Jacob Tomaw

If you hear Orbitz is going public, again, all I can say is true.  The SEC requires a 90 day quite period.  We have been instructed that durring this time no one can say anything.

Will it make me rich or poor, I dunno.  Will I be fired or promoted, I dunno.  Will things stay exactly the same for me, probably I dunno.  Maybe I have already said to much.  Hogan!  I see nothing, I know nothing.

What we don’t need, Walter Reed

Thursday, 8 March 2007 Jacob Tomaw

Don Boudreaux has made good points about the conditions at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.  If you want socialized health care, remember the peaple who run Walter Reed would be running every hospital.  I imagine their incentive would take a turn for the worse, when all health care is doled out by the government.

Arc de Triomphe

Arc de Triomphe, originally uploaded by flatiron32.

A lot of my pictures in flickr have only basic tags and no title. The last week or so I have been titling and tagging a few each day. Today I noticed that I have not titled any relating to our Honeymoon in a while.

This is unusual because almost none of them have titles and I have been working through the most popular pics list. The flickr popularity algorithm is not straight forward, but it seems like this picture of the Arc de Triomphe should be highr rated than a picture of my Grandpa opening gifts this Christmas.

I know I am not a great photographer and I love my Grandpa, but it is the most buetifal city on earth!  It is Paris people!

We are not in Minnesota

Friday, 2 March 2007 Jacob Tomaw

When we got home last night our flight for today had already been cancelled.  I called NWA and the agent was very helpful and initiated a refund to my account.  It sounds like it will take a little while to happen but it is going to happen.

We are very disappointed to not be visiting Dana and Kris this weekend but we will rescheduale for a couple months from now.  Jos and I took advantage of the day off to get new state IDs.  Also, Jos bought a cute little sewing machine.

Hemming at the new Table

Hemming at the new Table, originally uploaded by flatiron32.

We bought some new furniture last Saturday. Our new table, buffet, and end table were delivered on Wednesday. We bought them from Urbanest in Andersonville. We highly recommend them. Much better than Domicile, which is still holding our couch hostage.

You will notice although we have our new table, we still have the old chairs. If you would like to help with new chairs send checks or money orders to ….

We usually don’t eat at the table. However, Jos is using the new table as a sewing table to hem up our curtains she made a few weeks ago.

Another Reason I am Thinking Spring

Thursday, 1 March 2007 Jacob Tomaw

Joscelynn and I are going to see my sister, Dana, and here husband, Kris, this weekend. We were booked to fly out of ORD tonight after work. All week I have been tracking the threat of blizzard in Minnesota, and the threat has come. Our flight was canceled and we have been re-booked on a flight tomorrow afternoon. This is not going to cut into our visit time too much, but I am going to be disappointed if the weather does not subside tomorrow and we have to cancel.

Joscelynn is rather disapointed though. She now does not have an excust to tell her demanding boss when he has her stay late to print the internet or take a certification test for him.
