Monday, 10 March 2008 by Jacob TomawWhy is Daylight Saving Time not Standard Time? Each spring after moving to Chicago I have asked myself why this is not normal? What are the arguments for not shifting the time zone an hour for the whole year? Why we not want to shift our daylight into the afternoon?
Perhaps I am fairly unique. Flatiron, IN is only 2 miles from the Illinois border, so this was normal time all the time when I grew up. This is also why arguments about kids to school in the dark fall on deaf ears to me. I waited for the bus #7 along IN-32 in the dark for years.
Every year I think about not switching back to Standard Time. Work is pretty flexible, maybe this winter I won’t.
