Message from Tim Janecyk

Monday, 17 March 2008 Jacob Tomaw

Tim Janecyk is Treffly Coyne’s husband. He left a comment to the post about the dropped charges and I wanted to pull it to the top.

My wife our family would like to thank those of you who allowed your compassion to place yourselves with us in a terrible moment in the darkest hour (97 days) of our families lives.

We didn’t win on the 13th of March.

We waited 97 days to get what we deserved… justice.

There was never any evedience that Treffly did anything wrong. They knew that on day number 1, they knew that on day number 97.

There is mounting evidence of maliciousness on the part of Chief Timothy Sulikowskis Crestwood Police.

We fought this fight to show our children that you do not stand down when you are a victim of injustice or abuse. Those girls saw mom and dad fight the good fight.

We did not win, but we BEAT them.

We beat them because of all of the millions of faceless people around the world saw the trespass against our family as a trespass against their own family.

As a father and a man, I am humbled by a debt of gratitude towards so many people… a debt I could never possibly repay.

I would say this: From the deepest part of my heart, the place reserved usually for the love I have of my family, I thank you. I hope our fight, the fight you joined, opens eyes enough that this never happens to anyone elses family.

I make you this promise:

My name is Tim Janecyk.

I would fight as hard for justice for your family as I fought for mine.

My fourth grade sunday school student on Palm Sunday

Teacher: “Why do you suppose Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey and not a big white horse or a chariot?”

Student: “Because he was a Republican?”

Even Harder To Buy Gifts For Now

Sunday, 16 March 2008 Jacob Tomaw

Last Christmas I was given the Season 1 Star Trek: TOS Boxed Set. My family has trouble buying me gifts and I try to have a set of DVDs I might like to watch, so they can be given to me as gifts. Well I can mark TOS off the list. CBS has but them all online!

They also have MacGyver!

Treffly Coyne Update

Friday, 14 March 2008 Jacob Tomaw

In December, I told you about Treffly Coyne and the night she was arrested at Wal-Mart for not parenting the way the Crestwood Police thought she should.

She has made the news again, and we have being getting a lot of comments, because charges were dropped against her. This is great news for everyone except the Crestwood Police. They are not happy,

“We’re not happy with the decision. . .she clearly refused to cooperate with our officers that night, and we believe this sends the wrong message to the public,” police Chief Timothy Sulikowski said. “We stand behind our officers and the decision they made that night to protect the welfare of that child.”

I think this sends exactly the right message to the public. The police are normal people who mess up and should be challenged.

Congratulations Treffly!

This is the 14th Day of the 3rd Month.
In some date formatting this can be represented as 3.14.
The ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter can be approximated as 3.14.
This ratio is called PI.
Thus today is PI-Day.
QED

Happy PI Day! Enjoy all things round.

I’m not the only one!

Ta da! Plenty of people whose opinions I respect also despise talking on the phone! I feel validated. Business related phone calls I can navigate pretty easily, mostly, I think, because they have a natural conclusion and formalities take away some of the pressure to be creative. I do not know how to end a personal phone call, which means that most of the conversations I have (yes, even with my very closest friends) dwindle into awkward silence until one or both of us makes up an excuse to get off the phone. Death to the telephone!

Why is Daylight Saving Time not Standard Time? Each spring after moving to Chicago I have asked myself why this is not normal? What are the arguments for not shifting the time zone an hour for the whole year? Why we not want to shift our daylight into the afternoon?

Perhaps I am fairly unique. Flatiron, IN is only 2 miles from the Illinois border, so this was normal time all the time when I grew up. This is also why arguments about kids to school in the dark fall on deaf ears to me. I waited for the bus #7 along IN-32 in the dark for years.

Every year I think about not switching back to Standard Time. Work is pretty flexible, maybe this winter I won’t.

Mmm! Feet!

Almost There

So now that you’ve seen little Luca, here’s a new picture of our meatball of a baby. At nearly 3 1/2 months, Jonah is no longer an external fetus, rather he is truly our little man-cub about the business of learning to be human, too. He’s figured out that his hands are pretty useful tools, especially for taming and tasting those crazy feet. The toes do make it into his mouth from time to time, but sadly I cannot take a picture with my eyeballs and that darn camera is just never close enough when I need it.
