My Middlenamesake is One Bad Mother…
Sunday, 6 April 2008 by Jacob TomawHave you heard of the 14th chapter of Daniel called Bel and the Dragon? Probably not if you are a Protestant, but King James had and so have Papists.
Today I read liturgy, Peter laying down some early Christian law and the road to Emmaus in case you missed church. This means I carried the Word into service, which is symbolized by a very large edition of the Bible at the Temple.
Before service, I was flipping through the bible and saw “Dragon.” I did not know there was a dragon in the Bible. Looking a little further I saw a lot more I did not know is in the Bible. It turns out this is one of the most complete bindings of text anyone considered “the Bible.” Maccabees? Got it. Wisdom of Solomon? Sure. Esdras? Of course. We have it all.
This story is a fun read, but I don’t know if it says anything about God or our faith. Just your normal “God is better than your silly idol”, Old Testament antics. Another one of these times when I wish I had a pocket size Ehrman to talk to.
