We track everything

Thursday, 10 April 2008 Jacob Tomaw

At OWW we use Jira to track our issues, enhancements, project work, etc. I know of team that do not do any work unless there is a jira opened for it. We track everything.

One of the projects in our Jira setup is called “What Sucks Tech?” This has important stuff in it like how our test environments might be improved or how the wireless network gets over taxed sometimes.

It also is a good place to vent. Don’t like the coffee is too great, WSUK-42. Think it is ridiculous how the T6X laptops are worse than the T4X’s, WSUK-57. Hate Outlook, WSUK-28.

Last week one of the greatest jiras of all time was opened, WSUK-72: Toilet paper training necessary. I will not go into the awful details, but our men’s rooms are the worse bathrooms ever. I have been a man all my life. I have had to clean to toilet. I know men can be a mess, but it is ridiculous at the office. The urinal area can be gross, but, as the issue name indicated, there are some people who think whole roles of toilet paper can and should be used per sitting.

Needless to say, I voted for this one and signed up as a watcher ASAP.

Suicide is not funny

Wednesday, 9 April 2008 Jacob Tomaw

I have been following Garfield minus Garfield for about 6 weeks now. At first it was funny, then disturbing. Now it is making me question how Jim Davis has been doing this for 30 years. Is Garfield supposed to be funny?

Here is a good example.

Suicide without Garfield

OK that is very disturbing. Garfield must say or do something to put it in context, right?

Suicide with Garfield

Nope!

Joscelynn and I agree we used to think Garfield was funny, when we were children. This might be based solely on the Garfield cartoon.

So, is Garfield supposed to be funny?

The cat laughs for thee

Wednesday, 3 October 2007 Jacob Tomaw

I blog for the exact same reason as Scott Adams (Dilbert cartoonist):

There is nothing more frustrating than writing a perfect sentence and not being able to publish it. That’s why I love having this blog. Otherwise, it’s just me and the cat having a laugh at how witty I could have been. And it’s creepy when the cat laughs because I can never be sure we’re laughing at the same thing.

Yes, Ask My Mom

Monday, 17 September 2007 Jacob Tomaw

Stephen Dubner asks “Do Restaurants Blacklist Low-Spending Customers?”  He is focused on high-end places, but if you ask my mom you will know that she is on the shit-list of every buisness out there, especially restaurants.

Ever wanted to know what the kitchen of your favorite resturaunt looks like?  Ask my mom out for dinner and you will be seated as close as possible.

Ever wanted to know what it is like to fill your own glasses?  Take Vicky out for a meal and she will also serve the tea, because the waitress will not.

Want to be the first to have their order taken in a resturant?  I cannot gaurantee you will be first, but if my mom is at a nearby table, the odds of your order being taken before hers goes up dramaticlly.

You think I am joking?  Not on my mother’s life! Ask her about the flowers to my Grandma Tomaw’s funeral sometime for a non-restaurant experience.

Be prepared!

Save Me

Josh Hendrickson says,

If you are like me, you have been quite puzzled by this Bank of America “Keep the Change” scheme that is supposedly designed to promote personal saving.

I am like him.  This program has always rung oddly for me.

Alex Tabarrok is also like Josh and I and has good thoughts on it.
