Jonah is Here: Follow up tidbits

Tuesday, 4 December 2007 Jacob Tomaw

A couple things I forgot last night:

His birthday is the 3rd. He was born at 11:08 PM.
He has quite a lot of soft curly hair.
Jos and Barb say, and I agree, he looks like me. You can decide if that is a positive or negative.
Like a Shrute, Jonah is a hungry baby and has been latching well.

Jonah is Here!

Jonah and Joscelynn are doing well. At this very moment both are sleeping in the recovery room.

Joscelynn did not change from 8cm for 3 hours and her OB recommended Cesarean Section. This was the final step in the progression toward him becoming real. I held Jos’ hand and head for several minutes and then we heard his little cry.

He is 8lb 4oz and 21in with quite the little cone head. Oh and he is quite handsome. I know many will be curious if he has any birthmarks and he does not so far.

I have already take several pictures, but I forgot my cable at home. I will upload them as soon as i can.

Jonah is Coming: 2 bits, 4 bits, 6 bits, A Dollar?

Monday, 3 December 2007 Jacob Tomaw

Joscelynn is at 8cm. I think this is right on schedule. Her OB stopped by and conducted an exam. He is so nonchalant about everything, but we were quite excited. I was worried we had gone backwards or not made any progress.

Now we are taking DrMcD’s advice and hanging out for a couple more hours.

Everyone comments about how strong Jonah’s vital signs are. However his heart rate shows that he really does not like it when Jos is on her right side. Guess which side she would like to be on.

Thanks for all the notes of encouragement.

Jonah is Coming: The Wait Is On

Well not much has happened. At the last check Jos was at 5cm, which is a good sign. Also, we are watching the end of The Fugitive and amazed at how old it is becoming.

We will keep you updated.

Jonah is Coming: Mommy says ‘Ahhhh’

Monday, 3 December 2007 Jacob Tomaw

Barb, (My) Mom, (My) Grandma, and I just got back from lunch. We went to the cafeteria in the hospital while Joscelynn had her epidural started.

The meal was pretty good, but I am sure Jos would go for just a taste of anything.

Joscelynn is taking a nap now. Jonah seems to be making slow progress.

Jonah is Coming: Where’s My Water?

Monday, 3 December 2007 Jacob Tomaw

We are still here and things are progressing slowly. About 45 minutes ago, Jonah’s (or is it Jos’) bag of waters was broken. The resident said everything looked good and Jos’ contractions are getting stronger.

Jonah is Coming: At the Hospital

Well we are are the hospital now. The anesthesiologist has talked to Jos; All of her information is getting entered. The IV is being inserted and after that I think this show gets on the road.

Jonah is Coming: Where do I stay?

Wednesday, 14 November 2007 Jacob Tomaw

Jonah is coming soon and the family keeps asking where they should stay. I would love to have everyone stay at our place, but that would be uncomfortable for everyone. Also, when you look for hotels in Chicago they are going to mostly be inconviniantly located downtown or by O’Hare.

Below are 3 options that should be close enough to our house and transport to the hospital:

1) Chicago Lodge http://chicagonorthlodge.com/ 773-334-5600
This is walking distance from our house and also right by a bus route that can take you to the hospital. Jos and I checked it out this weekend. Joscelynn was not terribly impressed, but it is a clean and safe place to lay your head. Might be the kind of place you would feel more comfortable bringing your own pillows.

2) Days Inn of Lincoln Park http://www.lpndaysinn.com/ 773.525.7010
It looks like one of the problems with Jonah coming around Thanksgiving is a lot of the hotels have limited availability. This is near where we used to live. It looks nice and would be easy to get to our house and to the hospital.

3) The Inn at Lincoln Park http://www.innlp.com/ 866.774.PARK
This is located just down the street from the Das Inn and looks like it might have more availability.

Finally, if none of these work look at Orbitz and see what is available and in your price range. I can tell you how far away it is. However, you probably want to stick with places that say they are in Chicago or Evanston and away from places that say O’Hare. Also, we are fine with people still wanting to sleep on our couch, air mattress, and floor, if this is what you want.

If you live in Chicago, what are some other options?
