We track everything

Thursday, 10 April 2008 Jacob Tomaw

At OWW we use Jira to track our issues, enhancements, project work, etc. I know of team that do not do any work unless there is a jira opened for it. We track everything.

One of the projects in our Jira setup is called “What Sucks Tech?” This has important stuff in it like how our test environments might be improved or how the wireless network gets over taxed sometimes.

It also is a good place to vent. Don’t like the coffee is too great, WSUK-42. Think it is ridiculous how the T6X laptops are worse than the T4X’s, WSUK-57. Hate Outlook, WSUK-28.

Last week one of the greatest jiras of all time was opened, WSUK-72: Toilet paper training necessary. I will not go into the awful details, but our men’s rooms are the worse bathrooms ever. I have been a man all my life. I have had to clean to toilet. I know men can be a mess, but it is ridiculous at the office. The urinal area can be gross, but, as the issue name indicated, there are some people who think whole roles of toilet paper can and should be used per sitting.

Needless to say, I voted for this one and signed up as a watcher ASAP.

asanna R., a member of out off-shore team in Bangalore came on-shore a couple weeks ago. Last week, for him joining and a Brock, a new full timer, joining we went out for lunch. Prasanna R. wanted to send a picture back to India for them to be able to put faces with names. I thought you might like to see some of the people I work with. Not everyone is here, but most are.

The heads from left to right it is Chandu, Me, Brock, Praveen, Tom, Prasanna L, Anton, Alax, Jeremy, and Tan. The second picture is the same, but Prasanna R. is in the picture and Chandu is taking it.

Insider Information?

Monday, 13 August 2007 Jacob Tomaw

Today I found out there is a bit of a baby boom going on at OWW.  I had noticed that a couple women around the office were pregenant.  Then today I was talking to a teammate about Jonah and he said his wife is expecting in October.  Another teammate’s wife had a son last week and ‘new boss’s wife had twins earlier this year.  Also, I have heard that several other wives of coworkers are expecting.

Does this say anything about the health of the company?  I dunno and the SEC would not want me to say if I did.

Have you ever seen information about a national birth index or conception index?  Would this be a leading or trailing indicator of economic health?

Just Call Me Schultz

If you hear Orbitz is going public, again, all I can say is true.  The SEC requires a 90 day quite period.  We have been instructed that durring this time no one can say anything.

Will it make me rich or poor, I dunno.  Will I be fired or promoted, I dunno.  Will things stay exactly the same for me, probably I dunno.  Maybe I have already said to much.  Hogan!  I see nothing, I know nothing.

I know nothing

Looks like Orbitz might be going public again in a few months.  I don’t know anything that can confirm this.  All I know is that stock options are not part of my compensation.  Maybe I will be able to buy some stock at a discount in the future.  Even at a floundering company like AMS that was a good deal.  Free to me money is always nice.
