My next Fu#%ing Congressman?

Saturday, 13 December 2008 Jacob Tomaw

Greg Mankiw points out that Charles Wheelan is running to replace Rahm Fu#%ing Emanuel.

Wheelan teaches public policy at the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago. He wrote Naked Economics and lists Milton Friedman as “The Best Economics Writer”. Also, his “My Favorite Obscure Economics Concept” is Seignorage! He sounds Paulian to me. He has a great profile at Yahoo! Finance, where he contributes.

Oh, and his greatest attribute to me…he is not part of a machine like the rest of the wackos running. I am thinking about volunteering for his campaign.

Oh, to live in a republic

Saturday, 22 November 2008 Jacob Tomaw

The President-Elect’s F***ing Chief of Staff’s congressional seat will need to be filled. There are many hoping to represent my fellow Illinoisans. Let the people of Illinois’ 5th District speak!

Things would be so much easier if we just dispensed with the charade: we should do away with elections altogether and allow Daley to fill all political vacancies. But according to state law, we don’t have that option. The code says: “When any vacancy shall occur in the office of representative in Congress from this state more than 180 days before the next general election, the Governor shall issue a writ of election within 5 days after the occurrence of the vacancy . . . appointing a day within 115 days to hold a special election.”

Err…I mean… The people have spoken! Great and good is the Daley! May his reign be long and his appointees generous! Long live the Mayor!

Obama loves Democracy?

Thursday, 6 November 2008 Jacob Tomaw

Obama told us we should have renewed faith in democracy, right?

Well every American living the many states (don’t start with me DC-Washingtonians) votes for the following:
Elector for Presidential ticket
Senator * 2
House Representative

Of these 4 for me, Obama has nullified the vote in 2 of them. He will no longer be my Senator (after slaking on the job for the last 2 year BTW) and Rahm Emanuel is no longer my Representative. Worst of all, these roles are now going to be appointed by a Governor less popular that the least popular congress ever.
